    Ref Field In Footer (Word 2003)

    Is it possible to have a field in a document ( Employee Name) in the body of the document and have this same data update in the Footer on page one and subsequently page two if the document were to go over onto two pages?

    REF fields in the footer aren't updated automatically, but they will be when you print or print preview the document.

    Unless you specify that the footer for the first page is different from the rest, or that the footer for odd pages is different from that for even pages, the REF field will be visible on all pages.

    While I now know that these two actions will update the field, the users wont know this and think they have to manually update the footer. Is there a way to force the update to happen when the name is put in the first time? Can a macro UpdateAllFieldsEverywhere (which I have tucked away somewhere) be forced to run on exiting the Name field?

    What kind of field is this? A text form field from the Forms toolbar?

    Create this macro in a standard module:

    Sub UpdateAllFields()
    Dim pRange As Word.Range
    For Each pRange In ActiveDocument.StoryRanges
    Do
    pRange.Fields.Update
    Set pRange = pRange.NextStoryRange
    Loop Until pRange Is Nothing
    Next pRange
    End Sub

    Double click the text form field, and specify UpdateAllFields as macro to be executed when you exit the field. Also tick the check box "Calculate on Exit".
