    error when loading page (IE7)

This is driving me nuts. First, the problem, then the history. Maybe someone can figure this out.

When I try to load www.live.com, the page doesn't load completely (the basic stuff loads but the customized content doesn't load and the tabs don't work) and I get the following two error messages when I click on the little yellow triangle in the status bar:
    Line: 3
    Char: 61981
    Error: expected 'j'
    Code: 0
    URL: http://www.live.com/?wa = wsignin1.0

    Line:1087
    Char: 1
Error: Binding class (Start.App) could not be found
    Code: 0
    URL: http://www.live.com/?wa = wsignin1.0

Here's the history. First of all, IE (both 6 and 7) has always had trouble loading certain pages, which is why I also use Firefox and Opera. Odd, though, that the most trouble should be on Microsoft sites. But I couldn't get that site to load one Firefox and Opera, either. A few weeks ago, thinking that the trouble might be my firewall (ZoneAlarm), I set the privacy settings in ZA to allow all cookies and all ads. Like magic, www.live.com loaded successfully, with no error messages. This worked for about a week, even after I reset ZA back to where I had it. Then, last week, the page stopped loading again on IE, with the same error messages. Oddly, though, I could still load the page in Opera, so I figured it wasn't the firewall, rather the Internet Options settings. However, even more oddly, when I ran IE as administrator, the page loaded. I painstakingly compared the Internet Options settings in my regular user account with those in the Admin account and they are identical. So why the difference in behavior.

I was prepared to accept this nuisance, as long as at least one browser could open the page, even though it's driving me crazy. But this morning, going to the site, I ran IE as Admin and the signin page loaded just fine, with no error message. I entered my password, and the page once again stopped loading, with the above error messages. I tried again, and even the signin page won't load. And it doesn't work in other browsers, either. I tried it on my laptop, and it doesn't work there, either (although it has erratically in the past). Oddly, though, it works on my wife's computer, even though I have also looked carefully at her Internet Options settins, which are identical to mine. (It loaded on hers with live.com in the internet zone, but it doesn't load on mine with live.com in the trusted zone.)

Why this erratic behavior? Do the error messages give anyone a clue?

I should also say that at least half the web sites I visit with IE give me some sort of error message (icon in the status bar) although for the most part they seem to load correctly.

Have you emptied your TIF and deleted cookies for live.com?

Yes, I have cleared the cache and the cookies repeatedly while trying to get this to work.

You are running the final release version of IE7? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE7? Have you tried contacting Live.com support?

Re: error when loading page (IE7)

I am running the final release of IE7, and everything has the latest patches. I did try reinstalling, but it had no effect. I had hoped that when I upgraded from 6 to 7 that some of the problems would go away. The reason I continue to try to load this page, even though this particular page isn't all that important to me, is that I am trying to understand the erratic behavior of IE on my two computers, and it seemed more productive to focus on one site. Many interactive sites don't work for me in IE, on either of my two computers. That's why I also use both Firefox and Opera. But with Firefox, I rarely find a page in which all the images load. When I hit refresh, a different set of images fails to load. It's just frustrating to have to use 3 browsers when just one ought to do. I do prefer the interface on the new IE7 and am trying to use that, but as I say, many pages simply don't work in IE7.

As for Live.com support, no, I haven't contacted them. The help links are singularly unuseful, and I haven't got past that to locate actual support, if it exists. I guess I should try that next. I was hoping that the specific error messages I copied out in my first post might mean something to someone.

Due to the complexity of its customization features, I suspect that only Microsoft has a chance of decoding the errors. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

I fear you are right about the complexity of the coding errors. Well, I'm not going to lose sleep. Anyway, my main desktop computer is quite old (although I keep the software patched and up to date) and I plan to replace it within a few months. Maybe Windows Vista will solve all my problems once and for all <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/crazy.gif border=0 alt=crazy width=15 height=15> .
