Short Cut Bar (Office XP 2002)

Just got a new computer and while reinstalling my programs, I ran into this problem.

If I go into Start/Run/All Programs, I see the Office Toolbar in Startup (Not under Miscrosoft Office Tools). I tried to drag and drop it there but that didn't work, sp now it's out there on a line by itself.

The problem is that if I click on (no matter where it sits) it does not activate, so I can see or use it on the desk top.

    Can anyone help?

I'd recommend giving up the Office Shortcut Bar. It's on its way out - it's no longer present in Office 2003 and later. Its role has been taken over by the Quick Launch toolbar in the Windows task bar.

Hans, I do understand that but until I go to 2003, I would like/need to use the shortcut bar and wonder if there isn't a way to get it back. It was up and running with no problem on my old Gateway; I just can't seem to get it on the new Dell.

    Thanks

You need to do a custom install of Office. Just pop your install CD back in. I don't remember the exact wording but you should be able to change the existing installation. You want to customize it and look in the Office tools for the Toolbar. Just make sure it is checked and then proceed with the install.

Re: Short Cut Bar (Office XP 2002)

Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
    Select Microsoft Office XP.
    Click Change.
Select Add or Remove Features, then click Next.
Expand Office Tools, and make sure that Office Shortcut Bar is set to Run From My Computer.
    Click Update etc.

    If this doesn't help:

Open the Add/Remove Programs control panel.
    Select Microsoft Office XP.
    Click Change.
Select Repair Office, then click Next.
Select Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation then click OK.
