Can't delete absent network printer (XP SP2)

A few XP computers in a domain have a network printer defined and I cannot delete the entry on these computers, even with administrator privileges. When I try to, I get a message that the entry cannot be deleted because the computer cannot connect to the server and/or printer. The print server WAS an XP workstation that shared an attached printer. "Was" is the key word here.

How do I get these entries deleted without having the old print server attached and running?

    Thanks,

    Joe

Is it possible the PCs have print jobs in the print spooler still waiting to be printed out on the now non-existent printer? Check for any files in WINNTSystem32SpoolPrinters.....

    Forgot to mention that.

There are no pending print jobs. c$WINDOWSSYSTEM32SPOOLPRINTERS is empty.

If worse comes to worse download and install Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools. Use the cleanspl.exe tool to revert the print spooler to a default state i.e. it deletes all files, drivers, and printers. cleanspl will run on XP. I dont' know if you can specify a remote system to clean or you may just be able to copy it to an XP system and not have to install the tools on each XP workstation.
