Office XP (Office XP)

Has anyone used Office XP yet and, if so, what do you think of it? Should my office staff keep Pro 2000 or upgrade?

do you use outlook? if yes, then yes.

i personally think it is worthwhile upgrading, but cost wasn't an issue for me.

i'd recommended getting a trial copy and trying it for yourself - see if you need the features it offers or if you can live without them.

Thanks for responding Mary. Cost isn't an issue for us either. However, none of us use Outlook. I asked to order the trial copy and was told by the powers that be in the Purchasing Dept that "they" have decided NOT to get a demo, or to allow me to. Soooo - the posting in this Lounge for opinions. The users here will almostly exclusively use Word, Excel and Access.

    What do you think?

I have not tried Office XP, and I will not be trying it because I do not trust the so called Registration/Activation Wizard not to decide that I have moved it to a different machine and then stop working.

Thanks for the candor. I'm fairly afraid to try it myself but may not have a choice.

Thanks again for responding. Have a great day.

How exactly do they intend to evaluate it then, by crystal ball?

That's how this school district (as scary as that is) evaluates everything.

Oh, I see. Blind faith in management by committee without recourse to actual information, right?

While agree with Charlotte's opinion on Outlook, your committee folks may want to hold out just a bit. Depending on the number of users you have, it's become a prudent thing to await Microsoft's corrections to issues, which are generally released 6-9 months after first public release. It will dramatically cut back your Tech Support calls.

    Just a thought.

Did I have an opinion? Oh, you mean on evaluating? I don't see any reason not to evaluate the initial version, but I agree that I wouldn't recommending upgrading everyone until at least SR-1. Um ... isn't there an SR-1 pending already for XP?

    Re: Office XP (Office XP)

there may not be an actual sr-1 release, instead there will be regular updates, expected approx. monthly. they may or may not release the monthly updates wrapped into a package called sr-1.

So, how many of these monthly updates would you recommend waiting for before committing to the XP upgrade?

I am planning to wait for the one that removes the Registration/Activation Wizard.
