    Copying tabs (IE7)

    Hi,

I used to love using the CTRL+N shortcut to copy an IE window. The advantage was that it gave you a new window with the back and forward button's history retained. The shortcut still exists in IE7, but, now that we have to use tabs, it seems you can only start a new tab empty or with your home page. I want a shortcut or command that creates a copy of the tab, again with the back and forward history retained, in the same window.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

If I do a Ctrl+N, I get a new window, with history retained, but not a new tab. Do you have to use tabs?

    Hi Leif,

No, I don't have to use tabs, but I quite like them! If I CTRL+N to get a new window then I've got some tabs in one window and further tabs in a different one - which to me is missing the point of tabs in the first place.

Try this technique from Firefox and see whether Microsoft picked it up: Ctrl+drag the current tab to a clear area on the tab bar. Does it duplicate the tab with its history?

Added: Uh, this doesn't seem to work consistently in Firefox. I haven't figured out the pattern...

CTRL+drag just moves the tab in IE7.
