    XP Power Toys (All Upgrades)

When doing a "Upgrade" install of Vista on a XP machine, it WILL pay to uninstall all utilities including Microsoft's Power Toys. As most of these will NOT work with Vista and the upgrade install will just be wasting time trying to get them to work. Also some will NOT be able to be uninstalled using the Vista "Add and Remove Programs" from the Control Panel.

Bottom line, I still recommend that you do a Clean install of Vista.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: XP Power Toys (All Upgrades)

    Dave,

Normally, I would agree with your 100% re: clean install vs. upgrade install. However, in my particular case, I do plan on doing an upgrade after removing the applications I think could be incompatible, e.g., TweakUI XP and a few other "utiliites", e.g., Registry cleaners, etc. Since my system is fairly new, my choice to upgrade is to see what applications are actually compatible and which are not. Hopefully, taking this risky route, I will end up with a stable system and be able to get rid of any "failed" applications thereafter. IF the upgrade ends up being too problematic, then I will simply format the drive/partition and do a clean install along with the many hours of installing programs. At least during the upgrade, I'll know which applications need updating to be compatible. <IMG SRC=http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/giggle.gif>
