Two Hoses & A Pool

The first hose will fill the pool in 5 hours.
The second hose will fill the same pool in 8 hours.
If I turn on the first hose at 1:00, what time would I need to turn on the 2nd hose if I want the pool to be filled at exactly 5:00?

Got to show your work on this one...

The 5 hour hose would fill the tank 4/5 of the way. That means the 8 hour hose has to fill the last 1/5. Since it would take the 8 hour hose 480 minutes to fill the pool it would have to contribute 480/5 or 96 minutes of fill time

Perfect!

Keep an for an advanced, incredibly challenging version of the pool puzzle. Coming soon.
