    Working on Relations (03)

I have a field whose data type is set to Text and I would like to change it to number. Unfortuantely I keep receiving this message. I did have a relationship which I removed thinking this would resolve the problem but it keeps on resurfacing.

    Thanks,
    John

Also check whether you have set a lookup to another table for the field. This may have created a hidden relationship.
If all else fails, create a new number field, and if necessary use an update query to transfer the data from the text field to the number field.

    Hans,

I can not delete the field that is causing the message regarding the relationship to appear. I followed your suggestion in creating a number field and doing an update query. The data update was successful. I renamed both fields and tried deleting the bad one but it will not delete because of the relationship.

Have you tried a compact and repair (Tools | Database Utilities | Compact and Repair Database)?

I suggest you make a make table query omitting the troublesome field, you can rename the tables at you leisure.

    Hans,

I finally resolved the relationship conundrum. Apparently when you select Tools>Relationships and the window appears, it doesn't always display the tables that have relationships. I right clicked on the relationship window and selected "show all" and the tables appeared and low and behold there was a relationship between them. It's almost like smoke and mirrors. For my next trick, I would like to pull the table cloth off the table....

    Regards,
    John
