    Fields-Page References (Word 2003)

I wish to insert a Field into a document referring to an appendix on say, page 20 of the document. I may well insert more pages before page 20, moving the appendix to say, page 23. I would like the original reference to automatically change as I insert more pages before the appendix.
Any suggestions please. I know it can be done as I have achieved it in the past, but for the life of me I cannot replicate the task.

You can use a cross reference.

If the appendix has a title that uses a Heading n style, you can use that. Otherwise, select the text you want to refer to and select Insert | Bookmark. Specify a name such as Appendix.

Next, place the insertion point where you want the reference.
Select Insert | Reference | Cross Reference...
Select Heading or Bookmark in the 'Reference type' dropdown, depending on what you want to refer to.
Select the appropriate item from the list at the bottom of the dialog.
Select the page nummber or the text from the 'Insert reference to' dropdown.
Click Insert. You can insert different references to the same item if desired (for example the text and the page number).
