    Cross-reference error (2003)

I created a cross reference to a numbered item (paragraph number), but the reference displays the wrong paragraph number. It shows paragraph 4, but it should read 6. Oddly, I can click on the cross reference and it goes to the correct paragraph (6). The other cross references work. What's going on, and how do I fix it?

Have you selected the field and used F9 (or right click) to update the field?

    Re: Cross-reference error (2003)

Well, yes...several times with identical results. I right-clicked on the field and clicked on "Update field." Nothing changed. I closed and re-opened the document, too, but no change. Maybe I'll go in to work tomorrow and see that all's well again. By the by, I also looked at the document in Print Preview, and it shows the wrong number also.

The solution was to delete the cross-reference, save > close > reopen and rebuild the cross-reference. It's OK now.
