Copy/Paste Issue (2003 sp2)

    Greetings,
I have a challange. I have a spreadsheet where I need to get data from one tab to another. Tab 1, has two columns where col A may have many numbers repeating, then increments and that one repeats for a searies. The Data in Column B needs to come from Tab 2. The columns A for both tabs will contain the same numbers, however on tab 2 the column A does not repeat. When there is a match from Col A on tab 1 matches col A on tab 2, copy info in col B tab 2 into col b tab 1.

My real data has 30,000 lines on tab 1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Brad

    Re: Copy/Paste Issue (2003 sp2)

In cell B2 on sheet1 enter the following formula:

    =VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet2!$A$1:$B$30,2,FALSE)

Modify the range Sheet2!$A$1:$B$30 in the formula to be the range of the table on sheet2. Copy this formula down as far as the IDs in column A. If there are no gaps in the IDs, you can do this by double clicking on the fill handle for cell B2. You should now have the values as you want. If you want the actual values instead of the formulas, then select column B by clicking on the B column header, and then click Copy on the Edit menu. Then click Paste Special on the Edit menu and in the resulting dialog box put a tick mark next to Values in the Paste section and then click on OK. You should now have the values.

    Legare,

Thanks! Thought it might be a vlookup, but wasn't quite sure how.

    Works great!
