Kaspersky Antivirus major update

Kaspersky Labs has released a major update for Kaspersky Antivirus today . . . version 6.02.614.

This update, MP2, addresses several bug fixes and improvements and also now makes KAV/KIS to be compatible with Vista.

Myself and a number of others had problems installing this update over the top of the currently installed version, despite a KL representataive saying it is fine to do so. Therefore, I personally recommend that you exit KAV/KIS and uninstall via the "Add or Remove Programs" applet in the Control Panel before installing this update. You will be prompted to save your Activation info, settings, etc.

Download the update for your version here: http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates

I just installed the trial of the KIS suite the other day and I'm disturbed by how often it wants me to restart Windows. Is this normal or do you think it is due to the major upgrades?

There is also a new user guide, created on 27 Jan 2007, but Kaspersky put Jan 2006 on the first page.

    Re: Kaspersky Antivirus major update

Sorry, but I have no idea. I don't use KIS but the plain Jane KAV (just the antivirus) program. But it seems logical that both the KIS and KAV would install the same way which is after installing the application, a reboot is required and nothing more. Multiple reboots have never been required for me in all the years I have been using KAV. Perhaps each "section" of the suite requires a separate installation and reboot? Of course, if one uninstalls KAV, a reboot is required and again after a new upgrade is installed. I could only venture a guess that you had some other antivirus program or suite installed prior to installing KIS and possibly there are some remnants left over from it's installation. I am assuming of course, that if you did have another antivirus program installed you did uninstall it first, right? hehe

The best place to get help on this issue would be here: Kaspersky - Protection for Home Users Forum. Support there is excellent and fast.

    Jefferson

I was quite deeply miffed this morning to find that to update my Symantec Security Center (management console) for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition I had first to uninstall the Security Center, and reboot my Exchange 2003 server, then install the new version of the Security Center, and reboot the server again... So much for new operating systems not needing to be rebooted! (But I blame Symantec...)

    Re: Kaspersky Antivirus major update

Thanks, Jeff. I had the Dell trial of Norton Internet Security which I did uninstall first.

No, three days in a row I got popups from KIS saying that I needed to restart to complete installation of updated program components. I've ignored the third one so far.

Hopefully it's temporary and will settle in with just signature updates from here on out.

    Re: Kaspersky Antivirus major update

Actually, there was an update yesterday or the day before that did require a reboot. I would strongly recommend that you download the just released updated version, uninstall what you have now (you will be given the opportunity to save your validation info and settings during the process), reboot and then install the update, version 6.02.614.

Again, I am not familiar with KIS but from reading through several of the threads on the KAV support forum, KIS does have a feature to save your configuration settings within the program itself. Whether or not it is a global thing or each individual section of the suite has that feature I cannot say. With KAV, there is the option to save Activation info, settings, etc., which has always worked flawlessly for me.
