Newbie Question MES Not available (2003)

HI folks - I am a complete novice at setting up outlook - so first let me apologise for this stupid question.
I currently use outlook express but want to change to outlook 2003.

Everytime I try to open Outlook2003 I receive the error Microsoft Exchange Server not available.

How do I get round this.

OK - now I know all of you are probably now rolling on the floor laughing at my ineptitude!

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Don't worry, everybody can ask questions here, both newbies and experts.

Can you tell us whether you want to use Outlook for internet mail or whether you want to connect to an Exchange server?

If this confuses you: large companies often use a central server for storing e-mails; users within such a company send and receive e-mails through this Exchange server. Home users will generally send and receive mail through their internet connection.

Your Outlook account has probably been set to use Exchange by accident.
    Try the following:
    - In Windows, select Start | Control Panel.
    - If necessary, switch to Classic View.
    - Open the Mail control panel.
    - Click E-mail Accounts (# 1 in the picture below)
    - Select 'View or change existing e-mail accounts', then click Next.
    - You'll probably see Microsoft Exchange Server. Select it, then click Remove. (# 2 below)
    - If your Pop3 and/or IMAP are already listed, you're probably done. Otherwise, click Add...
    - For your internet mail, you'll probably need to select Pop3, then click Next. (# 3 below)
    - You'll need the information provided by your ISP to fill in the details.
    - For your AOL account, select IMAP, then click Next.
    - You'll need the information from AOL to fill in the details.

Good luck, and don't hesitate to post back if you have additional questions.
