    ????HISTORY file ??? (??????????)

How can I make a copy of my HISTORY file before I delete the history?
I just want to keep track of all the places I visit on the net..I know it's dumb, but I just want to.. <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>

As far as I know you can't do it directly. If you copy the file to your desktop (e.g.) even if you rename it, its clsid makes sure it's emptied as well if you Clear History from IE.
To work round this, open your History folder and any (eg daily) folders within it until you get to the lowest level. Manually copy the *.htm files you find there to a New folder of your choice, which won't have the clsid to identify it as History. At least this keeps the website addresses you've been to (and I suppose you could group them into days) but would it not be easier to add the URLs to your Favorites?

Here's an interesting finding : if you copy your History folder, then make it Read Only, even if the original still isn't, then IE won't clear either of them. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

ps no need to go ott with question marks <img src=/S/exclamation.gif border=0 alt=exclamation width=15 height=15>

From searching around at MS, there appear to be some functions to access the history ("travel log"), but they don't appear to be friendly, VBA-accessible functions.

In addition to saving individual URL pointers, you could try archiving the well-disguised index.dat file. Dropping into DOS reveals the deception:
    <pre>C:WINDOWSHistory>dir

Volume in drive C has no label
    Volume Serial Number is 07D0-0504
    Directory of C:WINDOWSHistory

    . <DIR> 05-04-00 9:09a .
    .. <DIR> 05-04-00 9:09a ..
    0 file(s) 0 bytes
    2 dir(s) 145,784,832 bytes free

    C:WINDOWSHistory>dir /as

Volume in drive C has no label
    Volume Serial Number is 07D0-0504
    Directory of C:WINDOWSHistory

    DESKTOP INI 113 05-04-00 9:09a desktop.ini
    HISTORY IE5 <DIR> 05-04-00 9:09a History.IE5
    1 file(s) 113 bytes
    1 dir(s) 145,784,832 bytes free

    C:WINDOWSHistory>type desktop.ini
    [.ShellClassInfo]

    CLSID={FF393560-C2A7-11CF-BFF4-444553540000}

    C:WINDOWSHistory>dir history.ie5*.*

Volume in drive C has no label
    Volume Serial Number is 07D0-0504
    Directory of C:WINDOWSHistoryHistory.IE5

    . <DIR> 05-04-00 9:09a .

    2 dir(s) 145,784,832 bytes free</pre>
