    Zap popups with POW!

I've been using this little program for a little while now, and found it to be quite effective. Launch POW! and it tracks the titles for each browser window; if a title matches up to its kill list, the window is automatically closed. I havn't been bothered with an X10.com window since I've been running this little program. It takes a while to get an effective list set up, but used effectively no unwanted window will ever pop up more than once.

You mean it deals with all those horrible popunders as well? Great - I'm away to get that right now...

Popunders? Never heard them called that before, but yes... When POW! is running, it puts an icon in the system tray. Right click on it, select "Add/Delete Popup", and a window will open showing all the banned popups on top, and all the currently-open browser windows on the bottom. Double click on the unwanted window, it moves up to the top, and then you'll never have to worry again.

The only difficulty that I have with it right now is that my security settings keep the X10.com popup (popunder?) from fully loading -- I get a message box about java scripting being disabled. As soon as I click "OK" for this message box, the X10.com window "finishes" opening, only to be blasted immediately by POW! If my security settings weren't so restrictive, I doubt that I would even see the damnable thing, or even notice that it had even launched.

I'm just curious about one thing -- X10.com generates enormous "traffic" from these ads, but does anyone actually look at the things? Unlike normal banner ads, these things actually count as "hits" whenever they are launched. I have to wonder what sort of rates they pay for this advertising, compared to the rates they charge advertisers on their own site (if they can get any).

I trust you don't have Javascript turned off when you visit the Lounge? You miss half the fun, if you do.

I use a similar little program called Pop Up Killer and hear a gratifying gun shot each time a window is closed. You can load exclusions for important little windows like smilies!! Get it here <A target="_blank" HREF=http://software.xfx.net/ss.php?redir=puk>http://software.xfx.net/ss.php?redir=puk</A>

    Gratifying gun shot sound?
    Gawd, I hope Charlotte doesn't read this - she'll be after something similar for punsters like Geoff <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25>

That's a wonderful idea, Leif. Thanks! Let's see, a smilie with a popgun, a la Elmer Fudd. Yes, I can just see it, and aimed at a smilie wearing a fool's cap and bells. Beautiful! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Officially the sound file is called thunder, but to my fogged ears it sounds like a gunshot!!!
