IMHO MSO '07 (Office '07 Pro)

I have installed MSO 2007 Pro with BCM and SBA. the suite is awesome <img src=/S/bananas.gif border=0 alt=bananas width=33 height=35> One thing that really bothers me though is the amount of resources this thing takes. Both of my computers have it installed, and both have a gig of memory. the PC is a little older machine with an AMD processor (P3) and the laptop is a newer one with an AMD Turion64. I have room on both for a gig more and it looks as if I am going to have to install another gig. I haven't gone into the services.msc yet as I am uncomfortable in there. Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks John

AFAIK, Office 2007 does not add any services that run automatically. What specifically do you think is happening? How are you measuring the resource comsumption?

Re: IMHO MSO '07 (Office '07 Pro)

What I am seeing is a slowdown in the total operation of Office '07 in comparison to Office '03. Now in all fairness to '07 I didn't have the BCM installed with '03. Where with '07 I do. Last night I got a little gutsy and went into the services and shut a few things off that I knew didn't need to be running. Nothing Office or Microsoft related however. I then went in and did a bit of clutter cleaning and the combination did improve performance slightly but significant enough to notice. The BCM is nice and I do like it although I wonder if I will take full advantage of it. Will have to ponder that. If I don't use it enough then I might just delete that and see if there is a difference. I can always save the data and re-install later.
Bottom line is that I think that it is the BCM that is the culprit.
    Thanks John

Can you turn it off or even uninstall it to see for sure?

Do you have the Windows desktop search installed? That seems to slow things down on my machine.

Yes I do have that installed. I removed it, and really didn't see any significant difference, and I missed the capabilities. I know that this is going to sound off the hook, but I have noticed, that if I leave Outlook running and not shut it down or shut the computer down, Outlook seems to speed up some what.
What I have also noticed, and this is really irritating is that Outlook sems to really put on the brakes and doesn't want me to move from folder to folder while it checks for e-mail. I don't remember previous versions doing that.

I've also noticed a significant system impact when Outlook 2007 is checking for e-mail. Usually that happens quickly so it isn't much of a bother.
