    Error Message (98)

I have the full version of Outlook 98 on my machine and also a copy of Outlook Express. In a bout a house keeping I deleted Outlook Express as it was no longer needed. When I try to download emails using Outlook 1998 I now get message "Internet mail is not registered properly. Please re-install and try again" Account details follow with Error Number 0x80040154. Have I detailed some shared files or is there a deeper problem? Thanks.

Are you using Hotmail by any chance?

I've managed to sort the problem out. Just re-installed Outlook Express. There must have been shared files with Outlook 98. It's a temp solution until I uninstall Outlook Express & Outlook 98 and re-install Outlook 98.

outlook and express share a number of files. is there a reason you feel you need to uninstall express? we remove the icons from the menus (out of sight, out of mind) and occassionally remove the msimn.exe file if we really want to prevent it's use, but leave everything else.

Maryj, you are right. I've now re-installed Express and will alone. By the way, what does the msimm.exe file do?

it's the file linked to by the shortcuts. outlook only needs it if you use Go > news. There are dlls that are shared and those need left alone, but since most people want ot uninstall it to prevent users from using it, deleteing the msimn.exe does the trick.
