    Excel Sumif Help (Excel 2003)

    Please see cell c31. I want to sum if either 1b or P or C or SS etc. And for each instance add together. So c31 should read 2.

    Thanks

    Why should C31 read 2? I see only one cell containing 1b. If you meant 1, you can use
    <code>
    =SUMIF($C$2:$C$25,"*"&$B31&"*",$D$2:$D$25)
    </code>
    The wildcard * is used to specify that any characters can come before and after the value of B31.

    BTW, if you want to count cells, you don't need to use the column with 1s and SUMIF. you can use COUNTIF instead:
    <code>
    =COUNTIF($C$4:$C$25,"*"&B31&"*")
    </code>
    Note that the range now starts at C4.
