    Appointment and Meeting (2003 SR2)

I have been using OL e-mail for a long time, but am just getting started on the Calendar. I understand that an appointment is just me and a meeting involves other people.
Suppose I want to schedule a Dentist appointment. Is this a meeting? I don't want to send him an email, but I would like to show his name and phone number on the calendar. Other Contact Managers that I have used allow you to double click on his name in the Contact list and fill in an appointment window. You fill in the subject, select the time and day, click OK and the contact's name and phone # appear in the Calendar. Is there a simple way to do this in Outlook? It appears that I have to type in his name in the Appointment screen and look up his phone #.
I'm using OL standalone, not Exchange.

Perhaps there's another way I'm not aware of, but I don't think native Outlook is so clever. What you -can- do is add the Contact, by browsing, to the Contact field at the bottom left of the Appointment window, and when you need the Contact details, click on the Contact in that field. You'll also find that if you generate an appointment with the Contact from the Contact window, using Actions | New Appointment with Contact, it creates a blank appointment form with the same link to Contact in the Contact Field. (You could also inset the Contact as an Item in the Appointment Body, but it takes more steps and has the same result.)

I expect that if you asked Microsoft why doesn't Outlook assume that an appointment is at the Contact's address, they will argue that many appointments are not at the contact's location. Unfortunately I have found that my dentist won't treat me at the bar. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Thanks, John. Actions/New Appointment is what I was looking for. (My dentist won't treat me there either.)
