    Compatible Programs (Vista Home Basic)

I am helping a friend who has bought a Dell with Windows Vista Home Basic. She has an old greetingcard program called CreataCard Gold 3. How do I find out if this program is compatible with Vista?
    Thanks.

I make this post in light of your other question in the Spyware/Security forum ( <post:=630,945>post 630,945</post:> ). I think the process of "converting to" or getting started with Vista is going to involve for most of us a lot of checking web sites or Googling for "the latest" scoop on software and hardware compatibility. In the case of a greeting card program that has been around for more than a month or two, the chances are that it's NOT Vista-ready. I guess you have two choices: either try installing it or going to its parent web site to see what they say. My guess would be that many "lesser" programs will be some time in the process of Vista readiness, but I've nothing to base that on except my gut feel.

Maybe DaveA can chime in here as to whether Vista has a compatibility mode similar to XP. That would enable old programs that did not directly access the hardware to run.

<img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15> Vista has a "Compatibility Mode" which I have found does work on some newer applications. All one can do is try to enable this feature and choose one of the several options in the dropdown menu. Just right-click on the application's ".exe" file, choose "Properties" and then "Compatibility"
