    wireless mouse / no standby

    I just installed a "Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2000 using a USB port at
    the rear of the computer . Now my computer will not go into standby as
    before. It will stay on 24/7 unless I manually put it in standby. I have it
    set to go into standby after 30 min. If I disconnect the mouse from the USB
    port the computer will then go into standby as set. Is there a setting that I
    must change, the instructions say nothing about this. Help please.

    1. Open Device Manager (click Start | Run, type DEVMGMT.MSC and hit Enter);
    2. Locate your Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse (under Human Interface Devices or under Mice and other pointing devices - I am not sure);
    3. Right-click Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse and from pop-up menu select Properties;
    4. On Properties window, click Power Management tab and then clear "Allow this device to bring computer out of standby" checkbox;
    5. Click OK and close Device Manager.

    You will be unable to bring computer out of Standby by moving your wireless mouse, but your computer will be able to go to Standby mode.

    You should go to Download Software to make sure you have the most current drivers for your hardware. BTW, what operating system are you running?
