Counting the numbers of columns that have data (Excel 2003 sP2)

I have a sheet with 4 columns that have dates in them. I want to know for each row how many columns have dates in them i.e.,row 1 has say 2 columns with dates, row three has 3 columns with dates so at the end of row 1 i should have the number 2 and at the end of row three I should have the number 3.
    Thanks,
    Craig

What other kind of values will the rows contain - numbers, text values, ...? If you have only text values and dates, you can use the COUNT function. Let's say you're interested in columns A through K. The formula

    =COUNT(A1:K1)

in cell L1 will count the numeric values (including dates) in A1:K1, and this formula can be filled down as far as needed.
