Pasting Excel graphs (Word 97)

I'm a Word trainer for a pharmaceutical company. One of my students has run into a problem I've encountered too, and never found a reliable solution for.

She pasting multiple Excel graphs into Word, and when they move to Word they're no longer the "same" as they were in Excel--font sizes epecially. This happens even when pasted as "pictures".

Any suggestions of solutions?

TIA, Beej

I always put my graphs into separate chart sheets rather than embedded in the ordinary sheet. The embedded ones seem more prone to changing fonts etc.

Re: Pasting Excel graphs (Word 97)

There is a setting for the graphs in Excel. Right click on the graph, select "Format Chart Area", and click the "Properties" tab. The default for object positioning is "Move and size with cells". This setting makes the fonts prone to resizing. Change the setting to "Don't move or size with cells".

It's also possible to export Excel charts as gifs through VBA:

Dim cht As ChartObject
For i = 1 To ActiveSheet.ChartObjects.Count
Set cht = ActiveSheet.ChartObjects(i)
cht.Activate
If CheckIfPublish(cht.Name) Then
cht.Chart.Export Filename:="c:myDir" & cht.Name _
& ".gif", filtername:="GIF"
End If
Next

Re: Pasting Excel graphs (Word 97)

Thanks to all who sent me suggestions.

I found one on my own. The problem is caused by the Auto Scale setting for fonts in the Excel graphs. If you disable the setting (richt-click the chart area, choose Format Chart Area, choose Font, and disable Auto Scale, this turns it off for the whole chart, Now you can copy and paste safely.
