Page Numbering (2000 SR1)

If I create a document with page numbering in the format nn of nn, it appears fine on screen but prints 1 of 1, 2 of 2 etc.
If a colleague opens the same document, it prints correctly, 1 of 4, 2 of 4 etc.
If they create a document from the same template, again all is correct.
Has anyone seen this and found the cure please? I have tried rebooting to no avail.

Hi Peter,

I'd say your colleague doesn't have SR1 installed. This bug was corrected in that patch.

Hmmm! Office was installed on my PC with disks purporting to include SR1 and that showed in Help About. I decided to install SR1 over the top of that installation and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Hi Peter,

Good thinking on your part! Glad it is working for you again.
I've often wondered about Office with patches included. I think that occasionally they include the SR1 but they don't include fixes that may be "late breaking" and the patch is revised before it is actually released to the public.

There is a bug in Word that is different in different versions (including different SRs).
See or http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/PageXofY.htm for information on Page X of Y problems. You may also want to take a look at:

Hope this helps.

Charles
Thanks for the links and confirming that the SR1 has multiple incarnations. There was me thinking that you used version numbering to indicate different releases.

Try switching twice from Page Layout to Normal or vice versa, going to the end of the file, then to the top of the file, and switching views again. It has usually worked for me.

Re: Page Numbering (2000 SR1)

Hi Peter,

What you were thinking is correct. There is a patch for this bug for Word 97 *and* Word 2000.

The fix (Post Service Release aka SR3) for Word 97 only fixes Page X of Y in printing, it doesn't not correct the screen display.

The SR1 patch for Office 2000 included the fix for display and printing issues. IOW, this patch fixed it for good.

The Page numbering fix is included in both O2K SR1 and O2K SR1a.

The difference be between the two is that SR1a is more for those that upgraded from Windows NT 4 to Windows 2000.

There were a few DLLs that were not registering properly when installing the SR1 patch. MS corrected this problem by creating the Microsoft Office 2000/Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility. The O2K SR1a patch simply includes this utility.

If you find you fall into the upgrade from Windows NT 4 to Windows 2000 category and only installed SR1 then all you need is the Microsoft Office 2000/Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility: http://"]http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/default.aspx>http:// http://office.microsoft.com/Downloads/default.aspx[/url]

Re: Page Numbering (2000 SR1)

Hmm. The PC is an NT client and I never had the problem on screen, just in printing. However, SR1a fixed it and it seems to be working just fine. Thanks for the additional information.

Thanks loading SR1a over the top of SR1 has fixed it.
