    Disk Cleaner disappears (XP Home)

On a client's XP Home PC, if you start Windows Disk Cleanup, the dialog opens and then after about 2 seconds disappears. I've checked on such sites as "Kelly's Corner", MSKB, and have done Google searches but can't find anything related to this specific problem. Any ideas on what to do to restore Disk Cleanup?

I haven't looked anywhere outside The Lounge yet, Jeff, so this is gonna sound crazy. Take a look at <post:=271,995>post 271,995</post:> from 2003 and see if you want to try making that small registry hack to turn off the compression feature. It (compression analysis) might just be causing a problem.

Take a look at C:WINDOWSsystem32cleanmgr.exe and try to execute the utility from there.

Edited by Doc to add... The registry hack that Al linked to might just correct this because it eliminates one of the processes Disk Cleanup has to go through before it does it's job and that process (compress old files) can take forever.
