    Running XP Safely as Admin

An article in a recent mag cited Browsing the Web and Reading E-mail Safely as an Administrator.
    Related <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> applications include:

    DropMyRights.msi
    AMUST 1-Defender 2.0
    VMware Player

    Any comments on these?

And one question at this point:
Is there any difference (security-wise) between running as Admin and running as user with full admin privleges?

DropMyRights is a Microsoft sample application which should help make it safer to run in a non-admin context when logged in as an admin. I guess it ought to work just fine. I'm not at all familiar with 1-Defender. Last I'd guess that any well knows virtualization product would help either VMware or Microsoft. No opinion on which is better.

Re: Running XP Safely as Admin

Some of the original links to the Microsoft site (the main place where the elaborate instructions for using DropMyRights)
don't work any more, and I can't find my file folder with the info. It's pretty simple to use DropMyRights,
except there are some details one might want to use. In my case, I can't find how to make a shortcut
for a DMR use of FireFox in safe mode (since that requires a "-safe-mode" flag,
so I must use a workaround.
Does anyone have a link that works, currently, for the more extensive version of the instructions?

You might check this Google search. MS seems to have taken down or moved that page. Clicking the posted link offers to DL or install DMR.

Re: Running XP Safely as Admin

That's exactly my point, Doc W, and I did do such a Google search, and the posted link offers a DL.
So, does anyone know of a place where the instructions are available? I know of instructions,
but not like the original, detailed ones, if I remember aright. And, my problem: I need to use a switch
for a program that has a space in its name, that's the specific item I'm hunting, that should be
    in the detailed instructions.

dropmyrights - MSDN Search has many links to MSDN blogs about DropMyRights. Maybe you can find something useful there.

Re: Running XP Safely as Admin

Joe, thanks. I can't find it, and I've poured too much time into this by now,
so it's time for self-exile, in hopes of regaining my sanity. I did use the link
you suggested and an internal search box there, that allowed additional search terms.
If I ever do happen to run into an answer, I will post it here.
