Alt keys will not function (Word 200)

We have a machine with Office 2000 installed where the Word application opens without any menus or toolbars. I have tried the Alt keys and get nothing. A word document will open the app and Ctrl +P will bring up the printer, Ctrl +F will open the search dialog, but no functioning Alt keys. Any ideas on how to restore the menus?
    Thanks

If you bump the mouse pointer to the top of the screen, does the menu bar pop into view? If so, you can select View | Full Screen to turn off full screen mode.

No it does not. I use 2003 and I tested a document in full screen mode and the blue bar changes to grey and moving the mouse over it brings the menu s into view. This does not happen on the machine in question. The bar is blue and hovering over it with the mouse does nothing. A right click gives the Close option.

See if <post:=603,766>post 603,766</post:> helps (I hope that Alt+F11 still works - it's not an Alt+underlined letter shortcut)

The editor is available and I used the suggestion of post 603,766. I typed it in the immediate window as written and received Error '5' Invalid Procedure of Call.

    Hmm... <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

Try Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>.

Once again Woody's Lounge comes to the rescue! I opened Word using the command line winword.exe /a as suggested by Phil Rabichow and all menus were now visible. I closed and reopened Word from the shortcut and it looks good.
    Thanks

But opening Word with the /a switch should not be the definitive solution. You should follow the rest of Phil Rabichow's post to see if you can find the cause of the problem.

Re: Alt keys will not function (Word 200)

Each time I open Word the menus are visible and normal, but at your advice, I proceeded to the next step and renamed the normal.dot file and reopened Word. It appears the problem has been corrected. I did however print out a copy of the Systematic Approach should I need it again.
    Thanks
