Entry in Combo is NOT visible (Access 2000 and above)

I have noticed this behavior before but never figured out why it happens
I have combo box with 3 columns of widths 4,0,0 Bound Column 1
When the list is dropped down or typed into the entry appears in the box
When the enter key is pressed then the combo appears blank but there is text in it because if you click in the combo or tab to it, it appears highlighted.
If I click off the form to another form and return it appears, but if I try a requery or repaint then it makes no difference.
I have attached a jpg with examples of the 4 stages

Since the content appears to be there, but not displayed correctly, it might be a problem with your video card. Try the following:

- Open the Display Properties control panel (either by right-clicking an empty part of the desktop and selecting Properties from the popup menu, or through Start | Control Panel)
- Activate the Settings tab,
- Click Advanced.
- Activate the Troubleshoot tab.
- Drag the Hardware Acceleration slider a notch or two to the left.
- OK your way out.

If this doesn't help, restore the original setting.

Tried that, but no joy.
Two interesting facts however.

1. Sometimes it appears after a short delay, but sometimes it doesn't
2. It only does it using Access 2000 (XP and 2003 appear to be fine)

It might be a timing problem, but without seeing the database, it's impossible to know the exact cause - and perhaps we'll never find out.
