MS Update version confusion (Office 2000)

Even though I only have Office 2000, when I use Microsoft Update, I find Office 2003 Critical Updates on offer.
Why? (I also have Word 2003 Viewer and Ppt 2003 Viewer installed, and recently installed the Document Compatibility
Pack. I notice that I also have "journal viewer" installed, though I've forgotten what that is.)
When I went to MS Update recently, I found 3 Critical Updates. One was for the Word 2003 Viewer, so I installed that.
The other two were 920183 and 929064. I wonder if there's a bug in the update scheme, or whether opening late version
documents is a risk for me even though I only have Office 2000, plus the viewers and converters. I couldn't figure out the
answer from the MS places I looked at. Does anyone have a clue?
    Thanks.

Do you have Frontpage, Publisher or any other "MS" product installed?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Update 920183 is for Windows XP and Windows 2003, not Office 2003.
Update 929064 is indeed for Office 2003; I suppose it also applies to the Word 2003 viewer (the viewer is essentially Word 2003 with the ability to edit documents disabled).

Re: MS Update version confusion (Office 2000)

Responding to the two responses so far:
Regarding "Do you have Frontpage, Publisher or any other "MS" product installed?", I do have the Publisher
that came with my Office 2000, installed. Otherwise, just the stuff I listed.
Regarding "Update 920183 is for Windows XP and Windows 2003, not Office 2003", that's interesting.
It was definitely one of the three updates that were listed as Critical Updates under the Office rubric,
after the end of the mass of XP and IE7 critical updates.
The comment Hans made about the Word 2003 viewer essentially being an editing-disabled Word 2003
makes really vivid the risk that the viewer needs the word patch.
Thanks. It's too bad that we're having to speculate, isn't it? I wish MS would be better about
explaining these things, particularly as the patches sometimes cause trouble. Sigh.

Re: MS Update version confusion (Office 2000)

    Addendum:
My wife's machine is an XPH like mine, with the same items installed except that it lacks the following three items
that I mentioned as living on my PC: Word 2000 Viewer, Publisher 2000, and Compatibility Pack.
When I went to MS Update with her machine, the same 11 Windows XP items showed up as critical updates.
But instead of the three "Office 2003" items (including the Viewer 2003 one plus 920183 and 929064),
no Office 2003 items showed up. So, almost certainly the viewer and the compatibility pack are what
triggers the offerings (whether they're all needed or properly categorized, or not).

Are you sure that the one fix is not 920813 instead of the 920183 you've mentioned? 920813 is for Office 2003 include the Word viewer. Particularly recently, I've not known the update process to recommend an update for a completely different product.

Joe, you're right! Sorry about that. It is indeed 920813 that I declined, not 920183.
A scribal error. Thanks for your patience and work on this!
I'm sorry about my carelessness, and glad it was cleaned up rather than sit here
    and cause further confusion.
