    Moving Outlook (Outlook 2003 SP2)

I have a new Vista machine and have copied my .pst file from the old XP machine. It's in c:usersAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook where it's supposed to be. Outlook shows all the old emails and folders, and all the contacts. But when I start a new email and click TO I get an error message that says the address list cannot be displayed, the Contacts folder associated with this address cannot be opened. How do I solve this problem, since the contacts are there under Contacts where they should be?

This is an old post, but Outlook 2003 and Vista should be roughly the same: <post:=334,705>post 334,705</post:>

    Does it help?

It almost helps but Vista is different enough to be confusing. If I click on TO and get the error message, I can click on OK and get the

Do you have two folders named Contacts? It might help to show the "Folder List" view in the Navigator pane.

If so, right-click the empty Contacts in the Navigator pane and choose Properties, Outlook Address Book tab, uncheck the box to show this folder as an email address book. Does it work?

There is a folder called Contacts, with 3 subfolders under it: Archives, Commercial and Contacts2 which is empty and the apparent duplicate. So I deleted it to the Deleted Items, then deleted the deleted items. Doesn't help.

Do you or did you have a second PST showing in the navigator? It is sounding a bit like one of the "ghost" PST problems.
