    Sending a mass email safely

I am just about to publish a book, and need to send out a mass email to all my contacts including a JPG of the cover, hyperlinks to the website, and some text. I would like to make the text reasonably secure from tampering, and retain the kind of page layout of the enclosed Word file (I had to chop out the pic as the file was too big, view in print layout), keep the links active, and not get caught in spam filters! Any bright ideas for a novice in this area?

I'm not sure what you mean: You don't want people to edit it, or you don't want it to be ruined by different mail readers?

The former - I want to make it hard for somebody to re-edit maliciously and then send on.

Depending upon just how much you wish to annoy the recipients of your email, you could either send it as a PDF (a few hundred KB, perhaps) or as a single enormous JPEG (compressed as little as you feel you could get away with!)...

PS Of course you'd lose the hyperlinks in a JPEG...

PPS Why do you suppose your recipients would wish to tamper with the text?

    Ita, esto, quidcumque...

For the purpose of authentication, a Personal E-mail Certificate might be of value:

"[i]A thawte Personal E-mail Certificate in conjunction with the thawte Web of Trust allows you to secure and guarantee authorship of your e-mail communications by digitally signing and encrypting your e-mails
