Thumb drive

I have a 1 gig thumb drive that works fine at home and used to work at my work PC, but doesn't now. I hear it ding as it recognizes the device, then it states that it highly recommends USB 2.0. I only have USB 1.1 at home and work. Every once in a while it will see the drive letter, but when I click on it it says to insert the disk.

Is there some reason that it's failing to read it now at my work PC?

    Ken

This sounds really silly but I had this problem a few weeks back. My Dell PC at home wouldn't recognise my USB drive. I got used to just placing it in another slot and it would work. It would never work on the front USB slot and I just placed with the ones in the back. One day the drive was not even recognised so I removed the drivers and replaced them....tada It worked front and back....so in short now, update the drivers

Thanks. I guess the magic question is how do I remove the drivers for it? I didn't see anything in the add/remove programs area. They were installed just by plugging in the drive.

    Re: Thumb drive

I just now got it to work. I removed that drive from the System/device manager, then removed it and plugged it in again and it worked.

    Thanks!

    Sorry

Got distracted with one thing and another. Great it works, I was going to say update the drivers but you have beaten me to it

    Re: Thumb drive

A similar problem with a machine that has a multi card reader on the fron panel. Sometimes the user would be able to read USB sometimes not. Sometimes be able to read from the multi sometimes not.

The mulit wanted to name it's drives e, f, g ,h and i. But the user had a mapped network drive at h. So the multi reader, and the USB would get to h, find that it was taken and give up.

so re-mapped the h drive to something further down the alphabet and no more problems
