Adding to Favorites very slow (7)

Using IE7, when I click "add to favorites" it takes about a minute to populate the list of folders. (Yes, I have a lot of folders underneath Favorites, but I also have a new top-of-the-range laptop.) Can anything be done about this?

    Use a proper Browser like Firefox <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Very droll, but what I was actually hoping for was a way of making IE7 operate more effectively. For example, is there a setting I can change?

Yes, and I was being totally serious too. There is a massive issue with IE7 and its speed and ability to work with cookies and/or multiple tabs etc.

You haven't mentioned if you have updated your IE7 with MS updates but some forums are mentioning to get updates....have you done this?

I have XP's "Automatic updates" set to Automatic, so I presume that keeps me up-to-date with IE updates.

I have no problems with IE 7 in any of these areas (no, not in other areas either).
FireFox is a *lot* slower on my PC (without any plugins)

Ok let me re-phrase there are a lot of issues with IE7. JonnyM mentions that he has a top of the range laptop, I personally think this is not about the laptop, it is about the application. Is also depends on what other applications are on the PC/Laptop.

Nothing is mentioned about the browser being slow in other areas like browsing etc but it does appear strange that it is only slow on Favourites being saved, that I would say is an application issue. I have had a look around the web and if you search for IE7 and favourites the word Phishing appears to get quite a mention.

Other forums do mention that FF is faster, but that is beside the point.

It appears that we all have different flavours of PC/Laptop all doing different things.

Further info. 2GHz processor, etc, etc. Fair zips about. The only performance problem is with "add to favorites". Never had a problem with IE6.

I strongly suspect the problem is caused by the number of folders I have under Favorites (2900), combined with a Microsoft design decision to build the whole folder tree before displaying the dialog box. (Don't know why they didn't stick to the normal Windows Explorer design, or even the typical FileOpen design.) If I'm right, there's probably nothing I can do.

PS: I have so many folders under Favorites because I keep all my files (web-based and hard-drive based) in the same structure. That way I don't have to dive into different folder structures depending on the location of the file.

PPS: I have the auto Phishing check turned off.

Ouch - 2900 folders under Favorites? That *is* a problem in IE7 since it always expands the entire folder structure under Favorites - in this respect it acts differently than earlier versions.
