    laptop sees 2 CPUs

I've got a HP Pavilion zd7260us laptop with a single processor. My device manager claims to find two processors (Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz). I discovered this while attempting to remove the sludge slowing the system down (viruses, spyware, adware, registry junk, etc). I've never heard of this problem and am looking for advise.

    Hi,
I believe this is because your processor has Hyperthreading enabled, so the device manager sees it as 2 virtual processors in effect. Mine does the same thing.

Mine too. If you work much with Task Manager you will see that there are two CPUs shown there, too, on the Performance tab. They can be 'combined into one' (that is, averaged) by setting View -> CPU History -> "One Graph, All CPUs", but I find it more interesting to see what each one is up to.
