    Taskbar (Windows XP)

    Hello,

Normally, on my taskbar, a little battery icon appears that allows me to determine how much battery power is left. It has recently disappeared. Does anyone know how to make it come back?

    Sincerely,

    JMT

The article pointed to by Hans seemed to know quite a bit about the subject...?

Did you have problems following the instructions in the MSKB article? If so, where?

Hans article is definitive, but you may not need to use all those steps. First try this: right-click the Start button, click Properties, click Customize (at the bottom of the Taskbar tab of the dialog next to Hide Inactive Icons, NOT the Start Menu tab), in the Customize dialog find the power meter item, and select "Always Show", Apply and OK out.

    Re: Taskbar (Windows XP)

Interesting ... I never saw Hans' article until now. How odd.

In any event, that article didn't take care of my problem. I already have "Always show icon on the taskbar" checked. Despite this, however, I would say that 50% of the time, the icon doesn't show up, even when I am running on battery.

John, I also tried your suggestion, but I didn't see the battery or power icon in that list (although I found the other taskbar items in there).

    Any ideas?

Sometimes I find that this icon disappears, I have to turn off the checkbox, click OK, then go back to the dialog box and re-enable it again. I get the same issue with the Volume icon too.

    Re: Taskbar (Windows XP)

I don't have a laptop, but I like to see the LAN connection icon in the notification area, and it sometimes disappears spontaneously. The method described by StuartR works for me in that situation: clear the corresponding check box, click OK, open the dialog again, tick the check box and click OK. Tedious, but c'est la vie...

Well, it works, although I anticipate the icons will disappear agains soon. Thanks all!
