auto correct file (Word 97 to word 2000)

I am forcing my staff to update from word 97 to word 2000. As a newspaper they use their auto correct file a lot! It doesn't seem to move with normal.dot or there templete that they use.
Does anyone know where it resides and how can I preserve it when updating

Re: auto correct file (Word 97 to word 2000)

In Word 97 (and maybe other versions), formatted autocorrect entries ARE stored in Normal.dot. Unformatted autocorrects are stored in a file named:

    username.acl

    ...located in c:Winnt or c:Windows

There are a number of utils out there (including a macro that comes with Word 2000+) that help you manage/view/print the entries in this file.

Why this file is not included in the standard "user profiles" folder structure sure beats me. If you want a roaming user to take his autocorrect from PC to PC you have to do a file copy with login scripts. If I'm off base on this, somebody set me straight.

See <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/ExportAutocorrect.htm> How can I import and export all my AutoCorrect entries, so they can be transferred to another machine?</A> for an updated macro for moving AC entries. Note that this macro is superior to the one distributed by Microsoft.

Also, note that if you have used any different language settings (even unknowingly) you may have multiple ACL files because they are language-specific. (and English-Canadian is different from English-US is different from English-Aus is different from English-UK is different from English-NZ)

    Thanks!

    Nice enough macro.

It really needs a VBA guru to edit it so that one can take the default AutoCorrect entries and store them as a reference table, take the current entries, and then exclude the original entries from the current entries, thereby providing a table of non-standard entries.

Then one could harvest the non-standard entries from each user and merge them into a corporate standard file, available for team members .....
