File Format not Valid (97/2000)

I have already posted this but maybe I can get someone else to explain why I am getting "File format not Valid" when trying to open an excel spreadsheet. Does this mean the file is corrupt and no hope? The file was accessed last week with no problems.

Sounds like the file is corrupt. I seem to recall that others have reported success opening corrupt Excel files with the StarOffice office suite, but I have no experience with it myself

    Linda,

If the file is corrupt, go to Google and search for "excel corrupted files". You will get numerous options from both MS and private parties that can help with corrupted workbooks.
