Relationships of 2 tables in 2 differnt Backends (

I've just taken on a database (Access Frontend) with multiple backends. One backend remains constant, it has tables that apply to all of my clients projects, while the other backends are project specific. So to change the current project they relink to the other project backend but keep the attachment to the common backend. I have always created relationships in the backend but in this case that is not possible as the tables are in different mdbs.

So here is the question. What is the best way to create relationships? If I create them in the front end do I need to drop them before changing one of the backends?

If the names of the tables and fields involved remain the same, Access will preserve the relationships even if you relink to another backend.
Please keep in mind that you cannot enforce referential integrity for relationships in which at least one of the tables is linked. Therefore such relationships are not essential.
