    Making a chart (2003)

Hi I need advise here please.

I have a large table of pupil exam results with 22 subjects as column headers and 80 student names in the left column. All their results are in the body of the table.
I want to produce a table with subjects as the Y range and students names as the x range with the grades in the chart area. Is this possible please?

You could create a 3D chart with the results on the Z axis, but it will be difficult to interpret. I don't think it's useful to create a chart of the individual results. If you have numeric results, you can create a pivot chart to summarize the data in a chart in various ways, for example the average result for each subject (averaged over all pupils), or the average result for each pupil (averaged over all subjects).

Thanks Hanz. I tried a pivot table, but it's difficult to get a nice bar style chart from that, in fact I cant seem to get it to look anything like a readable table

Well, actually the data are not in a good layout for creating a pivot table or pivot chart.

Once more, creating a chart based on individual results for all pupils and all subjects is not very useful. What do you want to accomplish with a chart here - what will you use it for?

    Dear Hans

Please forgive the lateness of my reply.

I have worked around this and have dispensed with the chart idea and just printed the spreadsheet as is.

    Thanks for your advice.
