Same Word Different Results (Word 2003)

    Hi,

Im perplexed over a Word problem. Ive a macro that sorts info via a mail merge and produces labels. It works really well. The same macro has been copied and paste from my machine onto another user's machine.

Although the macro is identical between machines, the labels are printed in different order....Why would that be, I would have thought that the order would have been identical......I assume that there must some kind of setting that is different from one Word to another??

Any help would be grately appreciated.

    Regards.

Are your regional and language settings identical. Sort order depends on your alphabet!

    Hi Stuart,

    Thanks for your reply.

I havent had the opportunity to look at the user's machine in question at the moment to check their settings, and will make a post once Ive had a look.

    Many thanks again.

    Cheers.

That's my only idea shot down then, let's hope someone else has a bright idea.

Can you provide information about the macro you're using?

Also could define what is different per your statement "the labels are printed in different order"?

What is out of order as to what is being sorted.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Hi Hans,

Ive attached the two macros in question. The idea is that macro two produces the labels in the same order as macro one, albeit that macro two contains less data.

You'll note that the sort order is by 'CITY', which in fact relates to a numerical code.

Macro one produces in numerical order but macro two produces the data in random order.....very puzzling !!

    Thanks for your time.

    Cheers.

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for your reply.

The difference Ive referred to is that one macro prints by ordering the data by 'CITY', which actually relates to a numerical code, and is printed numerically, which is perfect for my needs, however the 2nd macro, having sorted by 'CITY', also prints in a random order.

The macros concerned have been posted in my response to Hans.

    Cheers.

I noticed that the files names of the data sources are different in the two macros. Could that cause the difference? Perhaps the CITY field is interpreted as a number field in one file and as a text field in the other one.
