    CD Rom Drive (Windows XP)

    Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone had any idea as to how to get a CD Rom drive open. It opened fine for the first year and suddenly, it stopped. I have a Compaq computer with Windows XP, and I am not sure if it is a software/Windows problem or not. I tried restarting the computer (which once worked on a friend's computer that had the same problem), but that didn't work.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Sincerey,

    JMT

See CD-ROM tray not opening for some suggestions.

There should be a small hole somewhere on the front panel, into which you can insert an opened-out paper-clip, and push hard. The thicker the paperclip (that fits!), the more likely it is to work.

However, if that's the only way of opening the CD drive, then a replacement is obviously called for!

    Good luck!

PS Probably best to power off the PC before trying this, although it shouldn't really matter...

This is a known problem for a lot of laptops. Mine I have to use the "Paper clip" trick all the time. This happens when you let someone else use your computer and they do NOT know how to treat a laptop CD/DVD player/burner.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
