Starting Word Without Normal (2K, SR1)

Does anyone know how to start Word and instead of it starting with Document1 being based on Normal, having Document1 based on a predefined template.

I'm quite happy to let users have access to their normal to store autotext entries etc, but I want to ensure that they always have the styles and page format of the predefined template.

I'm sure there is a switch somewhere, but where and what?

    Thanks.

Thank you very much - exactly what I wanted but didn't know what to search for.

Use a shortcut for the template you want to use to start Word. Use it in the Start menu and on the desktop, both, instead of the Word shortcut. If you want, you can even change the Icon in the shortcut's properties.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using my own Word shortcut as you suggest, or using a startup switch?

Unknown. To me using a specific shortcut is easier but it is a matter of preference. I don't like command line switches (having moved from DOS to Mac and then been dragged kicking and screaming to Windows). I know how to use them but I prefer methods that I can tell someone else how to do over the phone. While I can't easily tell them how to change the icon on a shortcut, telling them how to add a shortcut to the Start menu or the desktop is pretty easy.

Thanks Charles. As long as I know I can do either - it will probably be the network engineers who decide which method they would prefer as they'll be setting it up.
