Table cell bottom margin (Word 97)

Is there a way to add a bottom margin to a cell in Word 97? I see the option in Word 2000, but I can't find it in Word 97. I need a good method to add space between the rows in a table.

Thanks!

I typically change the paragraph format to have 3 or 6 points before and after for all paragraphs in the table. If you don't have more than one paragraph per cell, this probably will give you the effect you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I do have multiple paragraphs in a cell.

and . . . you don't want space between the paragraphs within the cell?

Set up a different style for the first or last paragraph in a cell. Setting for the first paragraph (style T1) (with space before) is probably easiest. Then have a separate style (style T2) that is based on and the same as T1 except for the space before. Finally, set the style for next paragraph in the definition of T1 to be T2.

Confusing? Sorry.

Table:

+--------------+---------------+-------------+
| | | |
| T1 | T1 | T1 |
| | T2 | |
+--------------+---------------+-------------+
| | | |
| T1 | T1 | |
| T2 | | |
| T2 | | |
+--------------+---------------+-------------+

The above shows the styles assigned to the various paragraphs.

Re: Table cell bottom margin (Word 97)

Thanks, Charles, but, yeah, that's too confusing for the scenario that I have. The document is actually being created through VBA.

My non-elegant solution is to add an extra paragraph mark at the end of the text in each cell. I don't really like that solution, but the text will not be edited, so I don't think it will cause any problems. I guess I could alternatively insert a row that acts as a spacer. My Word 2000 version of the marco increased the bottom margin, and it worked beautifully. I was surprised that Word 97 didn't have this feature as well, as it seemed quite basic to me.

Thanks for helping!

Word 2000 also allows you to set space between cells (inter-cell margin) apart from intra-cell margins. This corresponds to "cell padding" concept in HTML.
