Addin to recreate Gmail conversatons (Outlook 2007

I like Gmail's conversation format, where all back and forth replies to an email are kept together. I've recently started using Outlook. Is there any addin that will do the same thing in Outlook 2007?

Thanks.

You can do this to some extent, see Power tips for organizing your Outlook 2002 Inbox (should apply to Outlook 2007 too). But you'd have to keep your sent e-mails in your Inbox, otherwise your replies will be missing from the conversation.

There's been a lot of discussion of this in the newsgroups; the Outlook MVPs are generally of the opinion that Outlook has a different focus than Gmail, and that organizing by conversation is less desirable in a corporate setting.

Here is another way.
In Outlook '07, click on Tools, then Options. Under the preferences tab click on E-Mail Options. In there you should see "When Replying to a Message" the default should be "Include Original Message Text" Click Ok and Ok your way out of that, then and I am assuming here that you have a folder in your in-box for this person(s), go again to Tools, the Rules and Alerts, and set 2 rules 1: Received messages go to that folder, and 2: that sent messages from you to that person are either copied or placed into that folder. That option is in the second set of options in the rules. Also on that same list is the option to categorize it which I find to be very helpful. In reality you shouldn't need the second rule, if the person to whom you are sending keeps the replies going. But in case there is a break in the thread, this is a nice back up.
If you really want to get fancy, you can set up a subfolder and name it sent under that persons name and have your sent e-mails go to that sub folder. I have that set up on one particular person who for some unknown reason I cannot reply to. I can send a new message to them just fine however.
Thanks John

Hans,
Thanks. As usual, you are right on the money. This was very easy to do.
The only thing NOT included are when I reply to a message. A little weird, but I guess that's because my message is in the Sent folder, not the Inbox. I suppose I could bcc myself so my reply winds up in the Inbox and gets included in the conversation.

It's interesting that there's discussion about this. I'm puzzled why corporations would not want to have a running record of e-mails on a topic. It seems logical and an easy way to retrieve/organize information. But, then, maybe that isn't the goal of corporations

John,
Thanks. I don't think this will work for me because the conversation can be amongst a number of people, not just myself and another. I'd have to decide who would be the "owner" of the thread and stick everything in there. (if I understand you correctly).

I clicked on the link that Hans posted and was unable to get past the first page where they talk about Group e-mail by thread and sort by date. So I dont know what else was in there.
Yes, my original reply was assuming you were confiring with one person. If you are conversing with many and they are all using the same thread, then you can set up two rules.
The first applies to incoming e-mail where the Subject line has specific words: for example (Woody's Office Watch) Outlook looks for those words so even if the subject line has an RE: in it, it will go into your chosen folder. The second rule will be the e-mails you send with that in the subject line.
You can do both using the existing rule sets
Thanks John
