Microsoft Update (XP SP2)

Hi, anyone know where Windows stores the automatic update downloads prior to prompting the user to install them? For instance, I have no intention of installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on my system, but Windows has already downloaded it and is just waiting for me to install it. I'd live to remove what it has already downloaded.

Thanks!

Nope, it's empty. I think that's left over from Windows Update. I could probably delete that folder now. Too bad MS didn't make it simple and have it create C:MUTemp

The base install of SQLServer express is NOT an important update to XP. If automatic updates has downloaded a SQLServer express update you must already have it installed (perhaps from installing another application). In which case I'd let it install the udpate unless you know for sure it will break an application.

OK, then it's probably in C:WINDOWSSoftwareDistribution.

Yeah, I have the app, but don't use it. I suppose I could uninstall it then. I was just curious as to the location for when I do a bit of cleanup, you know.
Thanks J!

Since most fixes reference a Knowledge Base article number if you have a particular KB number you could search for it as part of a file name.

You know this is the time when I start goofing up stuff and then have to come back here to the Lounge to ask nice people like you how to fix my mess. I see it's not a simple cache of installation files in there, the thing is like half a gig. I'm just kind of a clean freak when it comes to my pc, but this is probably something I should leave alone. I have far less problems these days than I used to when I was always deleting $Nt unistall files
