    Dropdown box (Access 2000)

I wish to create a query and a form to enable users to update a status field in an order table using a dropdown box.

Valid values for the status field in the order table are 1, 2, and 3.

I have a separate control table listing the valid values as follows.

    Status, Description
    1, Red
    2, Green
    3, Blue

I wish to display only the descriptions from the control table in the dropdown box on the form but update the status field in the order table with the associated status value. For example, if the user selects "Red" in the the dropdown box on the form in the following example, the status field in the order table should be updated with "1" via the underlying query.

    Order, Status [dropdown box]
    1001, Green
    1002, Blue
    1003, Red
    etc.

    Is this possible?

    Yes this is possible.

For your dopdown list (called a combo box) set it to have two columns, with the number in the first column and the description in the second column.
But set the width of the first column to 0. Set the width of the second column to anything that displays the words you use.

The users will not see the number, but it is the number that will be used and stored when the combo box is used.
    Regards
    John
