CD not accepted by SFC (Win XP SP2)

I tried to run SFC /SCANNOW, it started and asked me for my WindowsXP SP2 CD. I put the CD in the drive and clicked continue.

An error message appeared: THE CD YOU PROVIDED IS THE WRONG CD. I installed SP2 with that disc, how can it be the wrong one? What do I do now to make SFC run?

I suspected that this would happen when I installed SP2, now my suspicion have turned into fact.

Did you install SP2 with a slipstreamed CD or just with the SP2 CD?

If just from the SP2 CD, put in the original XP CD.

You can also avoid the whole CD bit by putting a copy of the I386 files on your hard drive.

Check out this site for detailed instructions. SCANNOW

Re: CD not accepted by SFC (Win XP SP2)

I installed SP2 from WindowsXP Service Pack2 with Advanced Security Technologies CD.

As per your instructions, I inserted the Dell Reinstallation CD: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 1 CD and it was rejected. First, it asked for the Windows XP Professional SP2 CD. I kept hitting Retry and finally it asked for the XP Home Edition SP2 CD, this again generated the message that it was the wrong CD. After hitting Retry10 times I tried to click Cancel (this didn't work). In desperation and frustration I manually shut down because Windows Task Manager could not close the notice.
    What should I try next?

Re: CD not accepted by SFC (Win XP SP2)

Bob, I have a copy of the I386 folder installed in the root drive ©. I have printed the Scannow sfc article you provided the link for and will check the registry as soon as possible and get back to you with what I found and if I had to make any changes.

Thank you for all your help past and present.
