    Sounds in Powerpoint (XP SR3)

I'm just starting to work with Powerpoint. I follow all the instructions about not using mp3 files but WAV files--nevertheless, I still can't get the sounds to work at all. Looking at previous posts and links, the issue may be that sounds play, not in wmplayer, but in mciplayer. I don't, however, seem to have mciplayer on my system--at any rate, nothing happens when I put mciplayer in Run on the Start bar. Can anyone please help and move me forward.

    The MCI Player is named

    mplayer.exe in Windows 95/98/ME
    mplay32.exe in Windows 2000
    mplayer2.exe in Windows XP

For more info see Multimedia in PowerPoint.

many thanks indeed. It turns out that what I'm missing on my main machine (though not on my laptop) is Windows Media Encoder.

You are always so kind and helpful--many thanks indeed
