I am using a Fire Wire (400 mbps) to download my Digital Videos onto my PC. The other day a person told me that a USB 2 cable is just as fast. How true is this statement?? Any ideas?

That seems a very old (and inaccurate) review: " I would personally choose Firewire over USB2 because it has been used a lot longer than USB2."
How often do you come across Firewire except on a Mac?

Those speeds are theoretical speeds, like "56K modem" is a theoretical speed. I don't think there is any way to know which would be faster other than to test it with your own equipment.

Experience with a HDD that has both USB 2.0 & FW 400 has made me use FW. <UL><LI>Disk access from the OS is prompter through the FW port. <LI>There occasionally was loss of data on Hibernate/Shut Down - when using USB (but not with FW). (The external HDD has its own power-down routine.)[/list]YMMV - as you almost certainly will have different hardware components.
